Instagram-Worthy Photos & Videos

Places of Power
The Ust-Koksinsky region of Altai, through which our route passes, is home to Mount Belukha – the highest peak in Siberia. It’s the very area where the artist Nicholas Roerich once searched for Shambhala. We’ll immerse ourselves in the same breathtaking landscapes that inspired his iconic paintings.
Russian Banya on the Route
We know that going a week without washing your hair is a nightmare. That’s why we’ve included a traditional Russian banya on the route – where you can freshen up and enjoy a proper steam session!

Meeting at Gorno-Altaysk Airport
We will meet you at the airport from 8:00 to 10:00 AM to embark on our journey together.

Our drive takes about 4.5 hours, offering stunning views and several mountain passes. The route covers diverse landscapes:
  • The green hills of the Maiminsky and Shebalinsky Districts
  • The rugged scenery of the Ongudaysky District
  • The steppe-like, almost Mongolian Ust-Kansky District
  • And finally, the fairytale-like Ust-Koksinsky District, as though it emerged from the pages of The Lord of the Rings.

Open-Air Lunch
We will set up a light midday meal in the open air, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.

Arrival and Check-In at the Hotel
In the second half of the day, we arrive at our hotel, where you’ll enjoy comfortable double occupancy accommodations. After settling in, you can rest and get ready for the upcoming days of adventure. A cozy dinner awaits you in the evening.
Day 2

Breakfast and Preparation for the Trek
After breakfast, we pack our belongings into special travel bags (archimaks), select the horses, adjust the gear, and distribute supplies. Before setting off, we’ll conduct a safety briefing and, if desired, provide helmets.

Departure and Route through the Altai Taiga
Around 12–1 PM, we begin a four-hour horseback ride through the scenic taiga. The route crosses a rocky pass leading to a rugged mountain plateau, where the high-altitude vistas begin. Along the way, we’ll pause for a snack and capture photos from the best viewpoints.

Arrival at Lake Kurtinskoye and Setting Up Camp
Our first campsite is by the mystical Lake Kurtinskoye, surrounded by centuries-old pines and serene silence. Here, we’ll pitch tents, set up a tarp, and light a campfire.

Dinner and Evening Get-Together by the Campfire
We’ll spend the evening in a cozy atmosphere, preparing mulled wine, sharing stories, and getting to know one another better. Many new friends and exciting impressions lie ahead!
Day 3

Late Breakfast and Breaking Camp
We start the morning at 9:30 with a hearty breakfast and scorching coffee. We break down the camp, saddle the horses, and head off toward Red Mountain.

Route to Red Mountain
This leg of the journey will take about 5 hours, offering breathtaking views: steep descents and ascents, swamps, dense forests, and sheer cliffs. We’ll stop along the way for lunch and photo shoots in the most scenic spots.

Camp by Red Mountain Lake
By evening, we reach our best campsite—on the shore of the crystal-clear Red Mountain Lake, where we’ll stay for two days. We set up camp, relax, and take in the beauty of nature.

Sauna, Dinner, and an Evening Under the Stars
In the evening, a hot sauna awaits us, followed by a tasty dinner and a starry sky so close you’ll feel as though you can reach out and touch it.
Day 4

A Leisurely Morning and Breakfast by the Lake
We wake up in a mysterious spot overlooking a mountain lake and savor a morning meal. Today, we remain here for an additional day and set out on radial hikes.

Choice of Routes: Ascending to Hard-to-Reach Lakes
  • Option 1: A short 40-minute climb (on horseback or on foot) to a secluded lake, perfect for spectacular photos and videos.
  • Option 2: A route leading to two lakes and a waterfall (1.5 hours one-way). This option is ideal for hiking enthusiasts, offering even more breathtaking views.
Return to Camp and SUP Ride
By lunchtime, we head back to the camp for a full meal. Afterward, enjoy a peaceful stand-up paddleboarding outing on the crystal-clear lake and explore its scenic corners.

Sauna, Evening Dinner, and Friendly Gatherings
In the evening, treat yourself to a hot sauna (Russian banya) with the option of a refreshing dip in the lake, followed by a festive dinner, guitar music, hookah, wine, and warm conversations around the campfire—the perfect way to end the day in a cozy circle of friends.
Day 5
Breakfast and Departure to the Final Campsite
After breakfast, we bid farewell to the lake and break down camp. Awaiting us is our last campsite and a thrilling journey across mountain ridges, where soaring panoramas reveal the majestic Altai.

Descent to the Katun River and Apiary Visit
The route leads us to the Katun River and a picturesque birch grove. Here, we’ll leave our gear and travel light to an apiary, where you can sample taiga honey and honey wine—an incomparable taste crafted by nature itself.

Opportunity to Gallop Across Endless Meadows
On the plains, experienced riders can let their horses gallop—a breathtaking run across boundless meadows beneath the sweeping Altai wind.

Evening by the Campfire on the Katun River
At our final campsite by the river, dinner around the campfire awaits, accompanied by the aroma of honey wine and the sound of the Katun’s rushing waters—the perfect close to a day filled with adventure.
Day 6
Breakfast and Packing Up
After breakfast, we realize we’ve already mastered pitching tents and saddling horses. We break camp and head homeward.

Ride Along the Katun and Farewell to the Horses
Just two hours along the ringing waters of the Katun—and we’ve arrived. A poignant moment follows as we bid farewell to our horses, accompanied by the realization that our journey is drawing to a close.

Hotel Check-In and Photo Session
After unloading our gear, we settle into the hotel and relax. For those interested, a professional photo shoot with the horses is available, so feel free to prepare your best look!
